Letter to Jonathan (May 27, 2022)

Dear Jonathan,

Happy Birthday son. You are my joy and firstborn. The first grandchild of my parents. The happiness and pride you brought to your parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins is well known. You loved us, you lived life large. You were full of happiness and dreams. You loved Jesus as a child. Well-known and liked by the local community here in New York.

You worked hard to achieve your pilots license as a teenager. You worked hard at your school work and received a nomination to your choice of our nations military acadamies. You worked as needed at our family farm, alongside flipping burgers at a seasonal outdoor movie theater.

Your cousins idolized you. Your father was proud of you. Your grandfathers were so proud of you. Your mom laughed when you were around. Your brothers and sisters thought you were the best brother in the world.

The picture above was taken and sent to me by one of the protesters who protested weekly for one year; by the roadside of Calvary Temple Church in Sterling, Virginia. Calling attention to the destroying of intact families. Under the tutelage of Pastor Star Scott and pastors in his employ. Turning kids, young adults and vulnerable individuals from the love and care of their own family. Twisted scriptures, innuendo, vague and contrived accusations. Simply put….lies.

But here is a picture of you the way I think you. Free. Happy, Loving life. You were in a 5K run with your family. I'm the designated photographer, as the only one not running. (Dang hip replacement)

Happy birthday Jonathan. Call your mom (and dad, and sister and all the rest of the family) text or come. I love you. We all miss you.
Mom
