Letter to Calvary Temple from Anonymous (June 5, 2019)
Dear Calvary Temple,
If you have been paying attention, you might have noticed Pastor Scott is laying the groundwork to install another new pastor. Why do I say that? Because he now finds himself getting too old to continue without a plan for who will take his place, and Waleed won't be the one. So what's an old, sick guy to do? Find someone he can control, will keep his many secrets, and most importantly, keep all that money in the family.
Pastor Scott has had to take his time about letting us know who it will be; it requires a careful and methodical undoing of years of stated and unstated bias against female pastors. If you are thinking he will make Greer a pastor, think again. He worries she will marry again when he meets his Maker and the money will find itself in the hands of another man. No, there is only one choice for the new head pastor - Kimberly.
I am sure you have noticed Pastor Scott's new fascination with women pastors. Suddenly he is full of great admiration for women in the role of overseer, church founder, evangelist, teacher, pastor, etc. For years, Pastor Scott has made it clear he doesn't think much of women in leadership but now must slowly convince his congregation that he has long supported women pastors. What's next? Will he be inviting Joyce Meyer to fill the pulpit? It won't be long before he explains that Kimberly has always moved in a pastoral role, now it will just be made official. Yes, Kimberly will be the one in charge of everything financial as well as the doorkeeper to all the secrets. Knowing all the secrets means control. (such as who has a porn problem, or who has been involved in dirty financial situations or who the cheaters, liars, abusers or adulterers are.) And Kimberly is probably the only one who will never tell all she knows of her father's sickening, abusive, hidden past. Though the other pastors and deacons know she will not be so protective of them should they get out of line.
In addition, Pastor Scott will have to adopt the methodology of other churches that he has long seemingly despised. He will now have a "teaching pastor". Yes, again, if you are paying attention, Jonathan Miller will become our new teaching pastor, Kimberly and Waleed will be the elders, and the others, well, the others, who knows? And does anybody really care? Steve was long ago pushed rudely to the side. Ron and Tony are wild cards, can't be trusted. Jeff is under Kimberly's thumb, and the others are nobodies.
To further underscore who will most likely become the "teaching pastor", a quick count of who has done the most teaching over the past year when Pastor Scott is too tired/sick or off on another much needed vacation to teach:
Steve - 0, Forbe -1, Les - 1, Rob - 3, Tony - 3, Jeff - 4, Ron -13, and finally, Jon Miller - 25 times. Yep, Jon Miller. Easily controlled and one who has proven his loyalty to Pastor Scott many times over.
Yes, Calvary Temple, our pastor is well able to change his theology to meet any current need he may have. And of course, he has a few other options. The hand-picked husbands of his own granddaughters might find themselves "ordained" around the same time. Well, one of them anyway, the other might not. We will have to wait and see on that one.
Obviously, I cannot sign my name. I'm not even sure if Molly Fitch will see fit to print this letter. I hope she does, maybe one of her kids or the others that are estranged from their families will get a clue. Many of us are locked in by marriage or position, but some can still get out before their whole lives are destroyed. Molly Fitch, please print this letter. Everyone needs to know Pastor Scott is desperately changing the rules for the sole purpose of protecting himself and his little kingdom.
Signed,
