Letter to My Children (November 14, 2020)
Dear Jonathan, Sarah, Josh, and Christina,
I love you. It’s early, 5 am, and I am sipping coffee while thinking of you all. Last week, Uncle David, Aunt Jackie, Brad and Nicole and Haley, Jac and Ben and Chloe and Lydia, Jordan, and your dad, were helping hoe out the basement. Last month Uncle Pat and I hoed out the garage. The opportunity to build a log home on a spit of land was presented, and so the adventure begins. Your cousins are amazing people. As is your Grampa Beck. Picked him up yesterday for a drive out to the land. He is going to find the best drilling site for the well. Talked about his childhood, his older brother Carl. You know Grampa is one of twelve siblings! They played all the sports they could. Uncle Carl was honored in NY, having an unbroken record pinning his opponent in wrestling in 8 seconds, in our high school. That was back in the ’50s. Dad said the guy was nearly knocked out by the force of the throw. (The mats back then were not as padded as they are today.)
Our family is lovely. We are missing certain people. No one can replace you kids. And God intends you to care and love for your own family always. Thieves and abusers seek to remove you from your natural family. They sneak around insinuating, magnifying family faults in order to usurp the God-given gift of family. They are bad people, Dividing fathers from children, mothers from children, children from grandparents, siblings from siblings. God is judging them. They take from others and add nothing but sorrow to countless lives.
So my goal, until I can see your faces, is to show the world, the lies
you are being told by people that have abducted your lives from your own
family. And remind you of the wonderful gift God gave you in your very
own family. All the members of it. It is a gift. Do not despise the
gifts of God!
Love you all very much.
Mom xo
