Letter to My Children (December 14, 2024)

Dear Josh, and Jonathan, and Christina and Sarah,

How are you all? I have been down to Virginia this week, praying I would get to hug and talk to my children, even look at them! They have been isolated from their mom, dad, and relatives since Christmas Day 2011. I know, it is horrible.

Today I did get to see my son Josh with my little grandson Nathan. Sadly, as soon as I approached my son to speak, he picked up his son and quickly went into his house saying, “We pray for Gramma Fitch to get saved…” to which I replied, “Joshua I am saved. I am a Christian.”

Then drove to (again) and knocked, on senior pastor Star Scott’s door, rang the bell, waited. No response (Greer came to the door after I walked away to retrieve her packages on the stoop).  Knocked on Pastor Scott’s daughter and son-in-law’s home next door, Pastor Jeff and Kimberly Heglund.  As always, Kimberly pleasantly answered the door and quickly said ‘I can’t talk to you Molly.’ And shut the door.

I love Josh. I love that he was outside on a chilly day playing hide and seek with his little boy. Just as he was raised. I am sad that, after 14 years of not seeing or talking to me, he thinks somehow his mom isn’t a Christian. Who told him that lie? Are there other lies? I don’t know.

Maybe that’s why. Calvary Temple in Sterling Virginia, isolates an awful lot from parents, family members, and spouses. There are so many stories. Heartbreaking.

Come home Josh. Never be afraid. Talk to mom, to dad, to grampa and gramma, to aunt and uncle and cousins and old friends. They all, we all, love you dearly. And will write till you are reunited with us again.

By the way, remember when you and school chum Danny made this! Standing in front of the church his dad pastors. Danny texted at noon, while I was out trying to see you kids. He wanted to drop by with his mom for a visit. I took a raincheck. Joshua you are missed! You are so loved!
